The Best Places of Attica, Greece
What is Attica
Everyone knows that Athens is the home to the legendary Acropolis, and many ancient temples, museums and sites. Meanwhile, not everyone knows that Athens is the only capital in Europe, located by the sea. We have prepared for you a Travel Guide with the best places in Attica, Greece.
Athens is located on the Attica Peninsula, in a picturesque land full of ancient myths and legends. Attica captures travellers from all over the world with its secluded bays, beautiful coves, rocky capes, wild beaches, majestic mountain peaks and a mild Mediterranean climate.

When in Athens, you do not need to drive far away or take a ferry to escape the hustle and bustle of the Greek capital. Just half an hour by car and you will find yourself on fantastic beaches no worse than on the beautiful Greek islands.
However, if you decide to head to the islands, there are 3 seaports in Attica. These are Piraeus, the largest port in Greece, Rafina and Lavrio. Cruise ships dock at the port of Piraeus, which is only half an hour from the Acropolis, and at Lavrio.
The popular resorts of Attica are located on its west and east coasts.
The Athens Riviera (Attica Western Coast)
The Athens or Athenian Riviera, known also as the Apollo Coast, starts from Paleo Faliro (just 7 km from the centre of Athens) and stretches along the western coast of Attica to Cape Sounion for about 70 km.
At the beginning of the Riviera, there are one of the largest yacht harbours in Greece – Flisvos Marina and Alimos Marina. This is followed by the fashionable suburbs of Athens – Glyfada, Voula, and Vouliagmeni. Further, there are popular sea resort villages with the cleanest sea, organized beaches, coastal taverns and nightclubs – Varkiza, Lagonissi, and Anavyssos.
The Athenian Riviera ends at Cape Sounion – the southernmost point of Attica with the world-famous Temple of Poseidon.
